The total area is 1,000 square meters and the Building space is 2,500 square meters. The research center employs many experts and professors from the domestic wood industry as members of the Central Academic Committee and introduces professional and technical personnel to serve as the central technical backbone.

The research Center has established completely a technical research center organization: the research center has one director.

There are five departments of wood engineering technology laboratory, drying laboratory, material laboratory, chemical laboratory, quality testing room and one department of market development. Special funds are earmarked, and no less than 5% of the technology funds are drawn from the sales revenue each year, and financial management personnel are set up separately to implement financial independent accounting management to ensure the funds for the activities of scientific and technical personnel and the funds required for the purchase of instruments and equipment.

The history of BFU can be dated back to 1902. Originally known as the Forestry Section of the Agriculture Department of the Imperial University of Peking (Jingshi Daxuetang, predecessor of Peking University), its academic force was greatly strengthened and expanded through the successive acquisition of the agriculture departments of Tsinghua Xuetang (Tsing Hua Imperial College, predecessor of Tsinghua University), Zhili Agricultural School, the Catholic University of Peking as well as North China University.
